2022 Wheelchair Rugby National Championship Games to be broadcast live and free on Kayo Sports via Kayo Freebies

Wheelchair Rugby Australia (WRA) has today announced Kayo Sports as the official broadcast partner of the 2022 Wheelchair Rugby National Championship on the Gold Coast in June.

The announcement comes as a major boost to the domestic wheelchair rugby scene in Australia, with Kayo set to stream 19 matches across both divisions of the championship, including all medal matches, live and free on Kayo Freebies. In addition, Fox Sports will broadcast a highlights package from each day of the tournament.

The announcement comes off the back of Kayo Sports successful broadcast of the 2021 event, where a number of new fans, third parties and communities were introduced to the sport. Confirming the deal for the second year running provides a great platform to leverage this newfound interest and present wheelchair rugby in its best light to the Australian people.

Wheelchair Rugby Australia’s General Manager, Chris Nay said “We are extremely grateful to the team at Kayo and Fox Sports for seeing the value in our product and supporting our great sport. Last year’s Kayo broadcast put us in front of the mainstream Australian community for the first time. The legacy impact of that broadcast showed us that many Australians have a genuine interest in wheelchair rugby, and we look forward to bringing high-quality, competitive matches right to many living rooms across the country.”

“We have ambitions to not only become one of Australia’s most recognised disability sports, but sports in general, and this broadcast deal is a major step to achieving that goal. This announcement will make an immeasurable impact to wheelchair rugby in Australia.”

Kayo’s Director of Marketing, Kim McConnie said: “The partnership demonstrates our ongoing commitment to make selected games and events from women’s, niche and under-represented sports available for free via Kayo Freebies, helping bring new audiences to these sports.

The event will be staged in one of Australia’s premier sporting facilities, the Gold Coast Sports & Leisure Centre in Carrara. Tickets will be available in at the website below, with the Bronze and Gold medal matches scheduled to take place on Sunday 26 June before a sell-out crowd.
