Bond and UQ share the spoils in the Sunshine Coast, National League heads towards Melbourne Finals

The 2026 Wheelchair Rugby National League returned to Queensland for the Sunshine Coast Clash, with three days of fast-paced action, close contests and plenty of familiar rivalries at Caloundra Indoor Stadium.

Despite some stormy weather outside, there was plenty of energy inside the venue, with athletes, coaches, officials and supporters coming together for another big weekend of wheelchair rugby.

The Division 1 rivalry between Bond University and the University of Queensland continued to deliver, with the two sides each claiming a win against the other across the round. UQ opened the weekend with a 50 to 41 victory over Bond, before Bond hit back on the final day with a 52 to 49 result to ensure the honours were shared.

There was plenty of other action across both divisions, with Protect Thunder also enjoying a strong Division 1 round, while the Flames continued their impressive form in Division 2.

A couple of injuries across the weekend meant some team lists were reshuffled, with players adapting to changing line-ups as the competition unfolded. We also welcomed Australian Steelers star Ryley Batt to the National League competition for the weekend, adding another familiar face to the court in what was a powerful weekend of wheelchair rugby.
