Wheelchair Rugby National Championship postponed due to COVID-19

In response to the evolving COVID-19 situation, Wheelchair Rugby Australia (WRA) has taken the step to postpone the 2020 GIO Wheelchair Rugby National Championship. Today’s decision by Wheelchair Rugby Australia has been made in conjunction with state programs and in accordance with the recently established Federal Government directives imposed to combat the spread of COVID-19.

The 2020 GIO Wheelchair Rugby National Championship was scheduled to run from Friday 29 May through until Sunday 31 May 2020 on the Gold Coast. A revised competition date will be confirmed in the coming months and released once there is certainty around the current state of play for sporting events in Australia.

Despite the obvious inconvenience and financial implications this will cause, the health and well-being of the athletes, officials, general public and the wheelchair rugby community as a whole was at the forefront of this decision and simply must come first in such unprecedented circumstances.

Purchased tickets to the event will be refunded to customers, who should expect to receive communication about their refund directly from Wheelchair Rugby Australia in coming weeks.
