The World Wheelchair Rugby Cup is coming to Brisbane, bringing eight of the world’s leading national teams to Nissan Arena for five days of fast, physical and fiercely contested international competition.

From 25 to 29 October 2027, the world’s best wheelchair rugby athletes will compete for one of the sport’s most prestigious international titles, and Australian fans will have the chance to experience every moment live.

For the Australian Steelers, it is an opportunity to chase a major international title on home soil. For fans, it is a chance to get behind the team, discover one of the most compelling sports in the Paralympic movement and help create the largest crowd recorded for a dedicated wheelchair rugby event outside the Paralympic Games.

World-class wheelchair rugby, live in Brisbane

Wheelchair rugby is a fast-paced, full-contact mixed-gender team sport. Four players from each team take the court at a time, combining speed, tactics, precision and physical contest as they carry the ball across their opponents’ goal line.

Brisbane 2027 will build on the success of the 2023 International Wheelchair Rugby Cup in Paris, where Australia defeated Canada 53 to 48 in the final. Staged between the Round of 16 and quarterfinals of the Men’s Rugby World Cup, the Brisbane tournament will connect two major international sporting audiences during a huge period on the global rugby calendar.

Back the Steelers on home soil

Australian Steelers captain Chris Bond is proud to call Queensland home – and more than half of Australia’s current high-performance athletes are based in Queensland. Competing at Nissan Arena will give the team a rare opportunity to play a major international tournament in front of friends, family and a passionate home crowd.

We want supporters from Queensland and across Australia to fill the arena, make some noise and create an atmosphere the athletes will never forget.
